Improving the Great Western Railway - Update on Planned Work

The next major piece of work is at Bath Spa from Saturday 8 April through to Sunday 23 April when Network Rail will be working to widen the platforms. This will mean we will be able to operate our brand new and much longer trains later this year. It will also reduce the gap between the platform and the train.

These are the bi-mode long distance services that will run as electric trains on stretches of the track where electrification has been commissioned, switching to diesel where it has not.

The work will also mean that the car park at Bath Spa is closed from Saturday 1 April, reopening on Monday 1 May. There will be alternative parking in the Southgate car park, which is 3/4 minutes from the station.

Full details about the changes to weekend and weekday services are on a dedicated page on our website https://www.gwr.com/bath2017  The work will affect services to Bristol, London, Cardiff, Portsmouth and Weymouth, and there will be changes for TransWilts services at the weekend.

Work to prepare platforms at other stations between London, Bristol and Cardiff will be undertaken later in the year. This will not require track access and we will not need to make further timetable changes for platform alterations.

Response to Internet Post

We regret to have to say that the information posted in relation to the Sports Hub is not correct and the impression given is misleading.

Discussions are ongoing within the context of the Bradford on Avon Neighbourhood Plan. This is a collaborative exercise by the wider community with the Town Council.

The draft plan will include a range of positive policies and will be subject to full consultation early in 2016.

Bradford on Avon Neighbourhood Plan Consultation Delay

Wiltshire Council has just produced a revised Housing Land Supply Statement (2015 update) which has increased Bradford on Avon’s housing requirements from 17 to 64 by 2026.  This means that the plan consultation that was to have taken place in September has been delayed.

The Neighbourhood Plan Working Group will now have to re-assess the housing policy and determine the best options for the town to accommodate the extra dwellings.  Until this has been done the Draft Neighbourhood Plan cannot be completed and presented for consultation.

We are sorry for the delay and will do all we can to ensure that the draft plan is presented to the town at the earliest opportunity.
